Water Resources Engineer – Rochester, Minnesota

WHKS has an opportunity for an experienced Water Resources Engineer to use their knowledge and skills in the design and management of environmental projects in Minnesota and surrounding states.  The candidate must be able to lead a team of design engineers and coordinate issues between clients and jurisdictional agencies involved in the water resources engineering process.  Proven track record of successful project development or project management is required.  Working knowledge of Minnesota design policies and procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Analysis and development of technically complex hydrologic and hydraulic computer models
  • Designing stormwater detention/retention systems
  • Designing stormwater best management practices for water quality purposes
  • Evaluation of proposed modifications to existing water control structures
  • Plan and specification preparation and review
  • Preparation of reports, letters, and technical memos
  • Preparation of permit applications, including 404 permitting and DNR floodplain permitting
  • Participation in meetings with consultants, other governmental agencies, and the public

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil or agricultural engineering
  • Ability to work with others as well as independently
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • 10-20 years of professional experience in water resources engineering or related field
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Minnesota, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Proficient in the use of ArcMap (GIS) or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Must be technically proficient, personable, and value a collaborative work environment focused on creating solutions for our clients and communities.
  • Ability to lead team of design engineers
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Experience

  • Ability to perform floodplain mapping
  • 2D hydraulic modeling experience
  • An understanding of Minnesota drainage rules and regulations
  • Design of agricultural BMPs related to stormwater and water quality
  • Open channel and pressure pipe network modeling
  • Experience with wetland regulation and wetland banking
