WHKS has a great opportunity available for a Civil Engineer who is interested in working with a wide variety of challenging engineering projects. The candidate will use their knowledge and expertise in the design and management of municipal, transportation, and other infrastructure type projects. Work will include municipal utility and roadway design, site design, quantity estimates, and other engineering support functions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Municipal utility and roadway design, site design, quantity estimates, and other engineering support functions
  • Coordinate with engineers and technicians on a variety of challenging engineering tasks in a collaborative team environment
  • Perform Project Management to include effective communication with clients to develop strong relationships, review project needs, and secure contracts
  • Design and prepare roadway construction drawings, typical/cross sections, erosion and sediment control plans, maintenance and protection of traffic plans, stormwater management, drainage design, signing and pavement marking plans, and right-of-way (ROW) plans
  • Perform other design-related tasks, such as quantity calculations, geometric calculations, roadway layout, grading plans, utility layouts, and subdivision layout
  • Develop 3-D models using GEOPAK or Civil 3D
  • Provide oversight of CADD technicians to ensure work is done properly and accurately

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Iowa, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • 10+ years of professional experience in municipal engineering or related field
  • Ability to work with others as well as independently
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills are required
  • Experience with Autocad Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Valid driver’s license
