North 2nd Street Reconstruction

The City of Maquoketa selected WHKS to provide survey and design services for the reconstruction of North 2nd Street, a well-traveled roadway in the heart of the City’s downtown business district. Following an evaluation of the street condition, the City opted to complete the improvements as an Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) STP-funded project.

The project design included an “S-curve” option and required coordination with business owners along the corridor to safely allow public access and minimize impacts during construction. WHKS facilitated meetings with residents and business owners and provided regular updates throughout the project.

Plans for the reconstruction of 2nd Street included replacing the water main and services, the design of new alignments for the sanitary sewer and storm sewers, PCC pavement, and ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities.

Project design and construction were completed in accordance with Iowa DOT Standards. WHKS provided full-time construction observation and administration services for the project.
