TR 251 Over Two Mile Slough Bridge Replacement


WHKS provided design services for replacing a single-span precast slab bridge in Tolono Township. 

The project incorporated the use of a steel press-brake-formed tub girder (PBTG) bridge system. This innovative technology is an Accelerated Bridge Construction method that achieves time and cost savings during the erection process for bridges with short spans.

The beam-slab sections were brought to the site assembled, set in place on a conventional substructure system, and a closure pour was performed at the joint locations.

The analysis and design of the superstructure was performed by another consultant. WHKS provided final structure, roadway, and hydraulic design, permitting and bidding assistance, and construction administration services. WHKS coordinated with the superstructure consultant and the fabricator to verify that design and plan documents followed Illinois Department of Transportation Local Roads policy and guidelines.

This project was the first prefabricated steel press-brake tub girder bridge project in the state of Illinois. Utilizing this innovative technology provided the County with cost savings, ease in shipment and fabrication, an accelerated construction schedule, and design versatility.
