Entry Level Structural Engineer – Springfield, Illinois

As an entry-level structural engineer, you will work closely with a team of engineers to play a vital role in the design of structural and related civil projects. Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for transportation structure projects such as bridges over major and minor waterways, interstate interchange bridges, bridges over roadways and railroads, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and three-sided structures.
  • Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for building projects such as building expansion, building rehabilitation, settlement investigation, parking ramps, and stairwells.
  • Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for geotechnical projects such as foundation for bridges, foundations for buildings, foundations for retaining walls, settlement rehabilitation, and slope stabilization.
  •  Develop 2D and 3D models using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or OpenBridge Designer software.
  •  Assist with data collection at project sites, technical report writing, quantity calculations, and design calculations.
  •  Assist with facilitating project-related public information meetings.
  • Assist with bridge inspections which may include:
    o Conducting field inspections of bridges, culverts, and related structures.
    o Documenting structural conditions, deficiencies, and maintenance needs.
    o Preparing and reviewing inspection reports, sketches, and photographic documentation.
  • Perform construction observation which may include:
    o Conducting field-required concrete testing.
    o Preparing and documenting material reports, test results and material sources.
    o Maintaining daily inspection logs and addressing discrepancies with appropriate parties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. E.I.
  • certification or ability to pass the F.E. exam within 6 months.
  •  0 – 5 years of experience in structural design.
  •  A valid driver's license.
  •  Excellent computer and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.
  •  Experience with Microsoft Office products, Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Designer, MathCad, RCPier, STAAD or MDX would be   an advantage.
  •  Knowledge of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) specifications and procedures is a plus.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to manage workload independently.
