Entry Level Civil Engineer – Springfield, Illinois

As an entry-level civil engineer, you will work closely with a team of engineers to play a vital role in the design of municipal, transportation, water, wastewater, site development, and other infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for municipal projects such as sanitary and storm sewer improvement, roadway resurfacing and maintenance, closed drainage systems, lead water service line replacement, watermain improvements, utility plans, bike trails and shared-use paths.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for transportation projects such as new roadway, pavement rehabilitation, intersection improvements, freeway interchanges, maintenance of traffic, drainage ditches, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for site development projects such as parking lots, closed drainage systems, drainage detention, driveway design, residential subdivisions, school drop off areas, and parks and recreation areas.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for water and wastewater projects such as water treatment facility improvements, wastewater treatment facility improvements, sanitary sewer lift stations, gravity flow systems, and water towers.
- Develop 2D and 3D models using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D software.
- Assist with data collection at project sites, technical report writing, quantity calculations, and design calculations.
- Assist with facilitating project-related public information meetings.
- Perform construction observation which may include:
o Conducting field-required concrete or asphalt testing.
o Preparing and documenting material reports, test results and material sources.
o Maintaining daily inspection logs and addressing discrepancies with appropriate parties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
- E.I. certification or ability to pass the F.E. exam within 6 months.
- 0 – 5 years of experience in civil design.
- Valid driver's license.
- Excellent computer and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D software is desirable.
- Knowledge of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) specifications and procedures is a plus.
